DKP System

During the days of the original Everquest, when the concept of “raiding” in MMO’s was still fresh, it didn’t take long for players to realize they needed a reasonable way of distributing raid rewards. There were people who were very loyal and gung-ho within their “guild,” who worked especially hard and participated extremely often in raids. Those people may have felt as though they were “getting the shaft”s so to speak, when a “pug” or even a fellow guild member, one who rarely participated, would get the “big rewards” out of a “boss fight” for which they’d been working so relentlessly, particularly on their first run. Something had to be done.

It then was decided that those who participated should earn some sort of credit for their hard work or “points.” In the original EQ, the bosses were dragons. So it only made sense to call the “points” Dragon Kill Points or DKP. Since then, guilds in other games (or kinships, as in LOTRO) have picked up on this system, and because the term DKP had become so well-known, the name stuck. Now even though the “boss” may not be a dragon, many still refer to the point system as DKP.

Current DKP

The DKP list can be found on the forums here, and is updated after raids by Cantrell.
